The Forest Glen community has an abundance of green space, including tree-lined streets, forest preserves, parks, and community gardens.
Boy Scouts worked with the
Forest Preserve District of Cook County
and the
Chicago Park District
to find ways to help improve and maintain green space on their properties. They planted this native garden at
North Park Nature Center
.
Boy Scouts installed 13 bat houses in natural areas across the community to attract more bats to the area and reduce the need for chemical pesticides.
They also installed 40 rain barrels across the community, educating residents about the importance of water conservation and stormwater management.
Girl Scouts planted a vegetable garden at a neighborhood church to provide the community with naturally-grown produce.
The Toolkit project improved green space and increased its benefits to residents and nature.
