The South Chicago Retrofit Project (SCRP) is an effort to connect residents of the Southeast Side with service providers who can help make their homes more energy efficient, comfortable, and affordable.
Through the development of many community-based partnerships, lead agency Claretian Associates and their partner Spanish Coalition for Housing have effectively connected several hundred residents to the program. Yet there are many hundreds more to go.
Youth from The Zone and the South Chicago Art Center worked with The Field Museum to develop a community-wide art exhibit to reach residents who might not otherwise hear about the SCRP.
The exhibit includes displays at 11 different locations. They highlight the variety of ways in which Southeast Side residents are already living “green” and include information on contacting the SCRP to inquire about a home retrofit.
